Currency is based on Gold. If you buy Gold, the value of the Gold will stay the same, but if you hold currency, the amount of gold you own keeps changing.
You need to know about the economies of the countries whose currency you are buying so that you can make informed choices rather than gut-feeling-bets. It's almost like gambling if you don't know about currencies.

Yeah, almost all currencies keeps depreciating against gold, but buying/selling of gold isn't as easy as foreign currencies.
