Doesn't look typical of a torrent site. I think you could work on a neater theme. Fix a community section elsewhere and concentrate the main page on delivering the latest torrent and accessible search engines for zooming around your site's content.
Take off the shoutbox at the main page of the site.

You need to pay for IPB. Personally, I would go phpBB over SMF but thats just based on preference. Ask your team for advice man..looks like your doing all the work.
