Old Pentium

Something happen to my old Pentium. The C hard drive is 99% full. I've deleted & uninstalled all that I can. It will not do any thing because not enough space. It is running Win 95. Also, because of this issue, both the D & A drive say drive not ready. Both were working find before this issue.

Some things work in safe mode until it locks up. There is some old data on it, but not important to keep.

I want to format the computer and start over & Install Ubuntu.

Question?

How do I format the whole computer to get it ready for Ubuntu?

I've installed Ubuntu on my other HP computer. I down loaded Ubuntu setup exe. to a CD. It would not run from CD so I installed it to HP.

I wanted to run Ubuntu from CD on Old Pentium but that ain't happening.

I'm Sadhoping by formating the old Pentium, the D & A drive will operate again.

Can anyone assist with this issue?

If you can't get the downloaded ISO to work, you can always get the latest version of Ubuntu for free by mail. It takes a few weeks, but it's always nice to have, plus you get stickers! https://shipit.ubuntu.com/

If it's not booting from the disc and running Windows first you have to change the boot order in the BIOS. It's usually F8 you have to press when the computer starts, but you can check the manual or sometimes it tells you on the screen for a second. When you run the Ubuntu disc, you can do the live CD boot and there should be an install button on the desktop and it'll format the drive for you and install. If it's an old computer I would try Xubuntu, which uses Xfce and it runs better on old hardware. http://www.xubuntu.org/

If you change the boot order and the drive is still not going anywhere then it's most likely dead hardware. Since that means the BIOS can't detect it.
